Grief Matters
The loss of a loved one, is probably the most difficult event we encounter in life. I know from personal experience how debilitating grief can be. It can affect us emotionally, mentally, socially, spiritually, and physically. The journey can be long and arduous. We long for when we can say that we’ve completed the journey and now are ready to return to old selves, as we were prior to the loss. The fact is, we don’t complete the journey. Our loss is forever a part of who we are. Grief simply takes on a different form.
We learn to accommodate and incorporate it in our new selves as it is doubtful that you will return to the person you once were. Grief and loss is an area of expertise for me. I have completed 100 plus hours of advance coursework on this topic. I am certified as a Grief and Loss Specialist. I am also trained in Prolonged Grief Disorder, a specific kind of grief, which if not treated, can last for years. I believe that the journey through grief gives us the opportunity to reinvent ourselves.
Perhaps, this is the reason for my passion. I offer educational-support groups for teens and adults, who are experiencing grief. These support groups are effective in giving instruction about what grief is, ways we experience it, theoretical models for managing it and how we’re able to move forward after loss Groups provide the opportunity to connect with others who are on the same journey.
These groups usually run 6-8 weeks. They are offered virtually and in-person. I also offer trainings for individuals, who want to become skilled at supporting others, who are experiencing loss. These trainings are done in a 3-week, group format.
